Reclamation and Closure Policy

For mining development and mining operations, the Yukon Government has developed a mine reclamation and closure policy that includes supporting guidelines based on national industry standards.

The Yukon Mine Site Reclamation and Closure Policy guides quartz - often referred to as hard rock - mining developments in the territory.

The basis of the policy is that mine operators are responsible to plan, implement and fund mine reclamation and closure and must provide financial security to contain the public risk for site reclamation and closure costs.

The reclamation and closure plan must be prepared by the mine owner and submitted for review and approval by the Yukon Government prior to receiving a Quartz Mining License. The plan must also be updated throughout the mine's operating life.
